The Harvard Yard Child Care Center project was the design and build of a temporary modular school building that would house the daycare during renovations of their permanent facilities. This project recently earned an Honorable Mention from the Boston Society of Architects, a prestigious non-profit organization that sponsors various design award programs to recognize design excellence. Read the BSA’s comments on this innovative modular design:

Portable green classroom, Harvard Yard Child Care Center

“Although this interesting project didn’t really fit the general criteria for design excellence, it’s a great idea that definitely deserves an A for effort. This green classroom system includes a range of optional components that conserve as well as collect and generate natural resources, including solar energy, daylight, wind energy and rainwater. The finishes are not just sustainable and hygienic, they’re fun! When the time comes, the portable building can be picked up and moved somewhere else for others to enjoy. We hope that by mentioning this delightful work among the rest, we might encourage architects to stretch their thinking about all the remarkable things that can be done for just a little money.”
