Modular Construction for Firefighter Training in Urban Environments

A new custom modular fire training facility was constructed for the City of Cambridge Fire Department in partnership with WHP Manufacturing and Triumph Modular. Located next to Fire Station Engine #3, this modular fire department training building is a three-story, 960-square-foot structure engineered from galvanized steel and finished with brick veneer to seamlessly match the existing firehouse. The facility features an open floor plan with no interior walls, allowing for flexible, realistic firefighter training simulations. It includes replaceable heavy-use components and repel lines for advanced drills.

Despite challenges such as limited space, low-hanging wires, and proximity to an active fire station, Triumph Modular successfully completed the urban modular construction project using phased deliveries and a telehandler for precise module placement. The concrete slab foundation was specifically designed to support dynamic fire training facility loads, and on-site installations included stairs, roof members, and water pipes for live fire training exercises. The Cambridge Fire Department collaborated closely throughout inspections and approvals, resulting in a durable, innovative training environment demonstrating the benefits of modular construction for public safety facilities.
