Wellesley College Temporary Science Center
Modular Laboratory and Research Space
In early 2018, Triumph Modular completed one of its largest projects to date: a 41-module temporary modular science center for Wellesley College. The facility was built in just six months—from December 2017 to June 2018—allowing students and faculty to move in ahead of the Fall 2018 semester. The modular science center was designed to serve as a fully functional research and teaching facility during the college’s $250 million phased renovation of its permanent science center.
Purpose-Built for Life Sciences Education
The temporary modular lab meets Lab Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) standards, providing secure containment for biological agents and enabling ongoing faculty research. It was essential to maintain continuity for student education and research that affects faculty tenure decisions. The modular classrooms and lab facilities were customized to ensure a high-quality academic experience during the transition period.
Smart, Cost-Effective Educational Space
Rather than outsourcing instruction to nearby universities, Wellesley College chose modular construction to maintain control over curriculum and student outcomes. The temporary modular science center delivered both cost efficiency and architectural quality—supporting the college’s goal of attracting top students while offering a purpose-built space for life sciences learning.
